Para 20.34 — MSO (A&E)
Original Rule Text
20.34 The return of the Objection Statement must be watched with equal care. They are due to be returned by the Treasury Officer within the time prescribed under paragraph 20.5 and he should not be allowed to keep them back on the ground that one or two of the objections require further enquiry. These can be extracted for separate disposal while the other items are replied to.
- ACCOUNTANT'S RESPONSIBILITY
What This Means
The return of Objection Statements by the Treasury Officer must be carefully monitored. Treasury Officers must return them within the prescribed time and cannot hold back the entire Statement because one or two objections need further inquiry. Those pending items should be extracted for separate handling while the remaining items are replied to promptly.

The AG (A&E) office sent an Objection Statement with 12 items to the District Treasury Officer on 25th March. By 25th April (the prescribed deadline), the Treasury Officer has replies for 10 items but 2 require further inquiry with a departmental officer. Instead of holding back the entire Statement, he returns it with replies to the 10 items and extracts the 2 pending items for separate follow-up, notifying the AG's office accordingly.
