Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned Thursday, March 19, 2026, that any repeat strike on Iranian energy infrastructure will trigger total destruction of Gulf oil and gas facilities. “If it is repeated again, further attacks on your energy infrastructure and that of your allies will not stop until it is completely destroyed,” the IRGC said.
Every Gulf energy asset, Saudi Aramco, UAE terminals, Qatar’s remaining LNG trains, is now effectively on Tehran’s target list.
Ras Laffan hit twice: Iran struck Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City on the night of March 18, firing five missiles, four of which were intercepted, and one struck the complex. A second wave hit early March 19, causing extensive damage to LNG processing trains and the Pearl GTL plant. QatarEnergy has declared force majeure on all contracted deliveries. Fires have been now contained, while there were no reports of casualties. Meanwhile, Qatar has expelled Iran’s military attachés.

Trump’s ultimatum: The US had no knowledge of Israel’s South Pars strike, President Donald Trump said. Iran retaliated by hitting Qatar, which Trump called unfair. He warned Tehran that the US will “massively blow up the entirety of South Pars” with or without Israel if Qatar is struck again. South Pars holds the world’s largest natural gas reserves and is the backbone of Iran’s economy.
Saudi Arabia: Riyadh formally reserved the right to take military action against Iran to protect its territory and economic resources.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said four more drones have been intercepted and destroyed in the country’s east, as the country continues to defend against a stream of unmanned aerial vehicles that have targeted the country over the past several hours.
Anne-Sophie Corbeau at the Centre on Global Energy Policy in Paris told Al Jazeera that Ras Laffan – the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant in Qatar – is likely facing a long repair timeline after it was attacked by Iran this week.
“We don’t yet know the impact of the damage,” Corbeau said, adding that “based on previous incidents at other LNG facilities, it will likely take months to repair”.
“The last major incident at an LNG facility was Freeport LNG [in Texas] in 2022: the facility was down for eight months. Before that, Snohvit in Norway was down for 1.5 years after a fire in September 2020,” she said.
“In a worst-case scenario, Ras Laffan may not restart until 2026, which means that LNG supply in 2026 would be roughly equivalent to where we were in 2021,” she said.
“This could be a five-year setback; the implications for the world and for gas prices are massive,” she said.
The Saudi Defence Ministry has announced the successful downing of nine more drones over the country’s Eastern Province, the latest in a night of interceptions involving more than two dozen drones.
The Kuwaiti Army said “hostile missile and drone attacks” are being confronted and members of the public have been asked to follow official safety instructions.
The sounds of explosions being heard are the result of Kuwait’s air defence systems “intercepting the hostile attack”, the military said.
Just over an hour ago, Kuwait’s military reported confronting an earlier missile and drone attack.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence has announced that it intercepted and destroyed another drone over al-Jawf province, in the north of the country, amid a continuing stream of drone attacks over several hours.
Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior said the fire at a company warehouse broke out due to falling shrapnel resulting from “Iranian aggression”.
Civil Defence workers have the fire under control “without any injuries”, the ministry said.
The Interior Ministry did not say whether the attack involved Iranian drones or missiles.
China is curtailing fertiliser exports to protect its domestic market, industry sources have told the Reuters news agency, placing additional strain on global markets already grappling with shortages caused by the US-Israeli war on Iran.
In mid-March, Beijing banned exports of nitrogen-potassium fertiliser blends and certain phosphate varieties, sources told Reuters.
According to the news agency, along with existing bans and export quotas for urea, only a handful of fertilisers – notably ammonium sulphate – can be exported from China, which would mean between half and three quarters of what China exported last year is now restricted, potentially up to 40 million metric tonnes, according to a Reuters estimate.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence has reported intercepting and destroying three drones in the east of the country over the past hour.
The spokesperson for the ministry said earlier that 10 drones were also destroyed on different occasions over the past several hours.
All were intercepted in the eastern region of the country.
Israel has launched a “massive wave” of attacks on the Iranian capital, the Israeli military has announced.
In a post on its Farsi-language social media account, the Israeli military said the attacks are targeting “terrorist infrastructure” in Tehran but provided no details or evidence to support its claims.
Israel’s Air Force said hours earlier that its aircraft had carried out dozens of attacks on Iran in the past day, striking more than 130 “infrastructure” targets in western and central Iran.
“The Air Forces continues to attack relentlessly,” it said.

European Union leaders called on Thursday for temporary measures to mitigate the impact of a surge in energy prices caused by the Iran war, with electricity tax cuts, lower grid fees and state support put forward as possible short-term fixes.
Europe's heavy reliance on energy imports has left it exposed to spiralling prices since the Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed and Tehran started striking energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
Israel pledged to refrain from more strikes on a key Iranian gas field after Iran intensified attacks on oil and natural gas facilities around the Gulf, raising the stakes in a war that has sent shock waves through energy markets and the global economy.
Global fuel supplies were already under pressure because of Iran's stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a fifth of the world's oil is transported.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has sought to reaffirm her alliance with President Donald Trump after the president this week seemed to complain that Japan was among the nations that did not quickly join his call to help protect the Strait of Hormuz.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, "Israel acted alone against the gas compound. President Trump asked us to hold off on future attacks, and we're holding out," when questioned about the strike on Iran's South Pars gasfield.
This comes after US President Donald Trump claimed he "knew nothing" about the attack and told Netanyahu to stop targeting Iran's energy facilities. However, Israeli officials have reportedly said the strike was coordinated with the US, contradicting Trump's statement.
Families celebrating Eid in East Jerusalem were interrupted by sirens and booms in the skies above, with urgent alerts on mobile phones and dull thuds heard in the city.
Despite being habituated to such incidents, the speed of sirens and alerts surprised residents. Iranian state television confirmed four salvos of missiles were fired, following Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's claim that Tehran's ballistic missile manufacturing ability had been largely destroyed in the first 20 days of the war.
President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's diverging language on Israel's decision to attack a critical Iranian gas field marks the most notable difference of opinion between the two leaders since the start of the 20-day war against Iran.
The attack by Israel on the South Pars gas field prompted Iran to retaliate against energy infrastructure in other Middle East countries. The Iranian strikes led to already elevated global energy prices further surging and spurred Gulf allies to call for Trump to rein in Netanyahu.

Iran is considering a proposal to levy transit fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a lawmaker said on Thursday, a potential bid to monetise Tehran's newfound grip over the critical waterway through which a fifth of global oil and liquefied gas passes.
Since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran, Tehran has disrupted maritime transit through the strait for vessels it says are linked to its war adversaries and their allies.
According to the Iranian Students' News Agency, the lawmaker said parliament was considering a bill under which countries using the strait for shipping, energy transit and food supplies would be required to pay tolls and taxes to Iran. *(Reuters)*

US-Israel-Iran War News Live Updates: US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said that Washington had no role in the South Pars Gas Field attack and warned Iran against targeting Qatar’s LNG facilities amid rising Middle East tensions.
"Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit. The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen. Unfortunately, Iran did not know this, or any of the pertinent facts pertaining to the South Pars attack, and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar’s LNG Gas facility," Trump said.
"NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar - In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before. I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so. Thank you for your attention to this matter," he added.

Conflict in the Middle East is disrupting a significant share of global energy supplies and has triggered the most severe energy crisis in the past 40 years, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Wednesday.

Qatar said strikes against Iranian facilities, which it says were launched by Israel, linked to the world's largest natural gas field are "dangerous and irresponsible". Both Qatar and Iran operate facilities which extract from the same gas field, the Iranian side of which is known as South Pars.

Saudi Arabia will host a consultative meeting of foreign ministers from a number of Arab and Islamic countries in Riyadh on Wednesday to discuss ways to support regional security and stability given the Iran war, the kingdom's foreign ministry said.
A Turkish diplomatic source said separately that representatives from Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Syria, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates would attend the meeting. There are scant signs of de-escalation nearly three weeks into the US-Israeli war with Iran that has engulfed the region and caused unprecedented disruption to global energy supplies.
