Official Announcement
UPSC has officially released the Civil Services Examination 2025 final results along with the minimum qualifying marks for all categories. This page covers everything from Prelims cut-offs to the final recommended candidates list with scores.
What the UPSC Cut-Off Actually Tells You
Every year, lakhs of aspirants wait for one number — the cut-off. But it is not just a number. It tells you where the competition actually stood, what the realistic benchmark looks like, and how far your preparation needs to go for the next attempt.
UPSC has now officially published the minimum qualifying marks secured by the last recommended candidate in the Civil Services Examination 2025. This covers all three stages — Prelims, Mains, and Final — and includes every category from General to EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and all PwBD sub-categories.
UPSC Civil Services 2025 Minimum Qualifying Marks
The marks shown below belong to the last recommended candidate at each stage. This is the official cut-off.
Stage | General | EWS | OBC | SC | ST | PwBD 1 | PwBD 2 | PwBD 3 | PwBD 5
CS Prelims | 92.66 | 89.34 | 92.00 | 84.00 | 82.66 | 76.66 | 54.66 | 40.66 | 40.66
CS Mains | 739 | 706 | 717 | 700 | 694 | 703 | 708 | 536 | 451
CS Final | 963 | 926 | 931 | 905 | 902 | 917 | 944 | 804 | 631
Note on Prelims: The cut-off is based on GS Paper I only. GS Paper II (CSAT) is qualifying in nature and requires a minimum of 33% marks as per Rule 15 of the Civil Services Examination 2025.
Note on Mains: Candidates must score at least 10% in each of the seven competitive papers, namely Essay, GS I, GS II, GS III, GS IV, Optional I and Optional II.
Understanding the Numbers
A common mistake aspirants make is treating the cut-off as an average score. It is not. These are the marks of the last person who made it through. Even a fraction below this at any stage means you did not qualify. That is how fine the margins are at this level.
The General category Prelims cut-off sits at 92.66 while ST candidates needed 82.66, a gap of 10 marks. At the Final stage the gap widens to 61 marks, with General at 963 and ST at 902. This widening reflects both interview variability and the cumulative nature of scoring across all stages.
For PwBD candidates the numbers tell a different story. PwBD 5 candidates needed just 40.66 in Prelims and 631 in the Final, reflecting the significant relaxation provided to ensure representation from persons with benchmark disabilities.
UPSC CSE 2025 Toppers
Anuj Agnihotri has topped the Civil Services Examination 2025 with a Final Total of 1071 marks. He scored 867 in the Written stage and 204 in the Personality Test. Securing Rank 1 in one of the country’s hardest examinations reflects consistent preparation across every paper and a strong performance in the interview room.
At Rank 2, Rajeshwari Suve M from the OBC category scored 865 in the Written stage and 202 in the Personality Test, finishing with a Final Total of 1067. Just 4 marks separate Rank 1 from Rank 2, which is a stark reminder of how close the competition gets at the very top.
Worth noting: At the top ranks, the interview often decides which service you get, not just whether you get selected. The 204 marks Anuj scored in the Personality Test is not a number you can afford to leave to chance.

What This Means for UPSC 2026 Aspirants
If you are preparing for UPSC CSE 2026, these numbers are your new baseline. The General category Prelims cut-off of 92.66 might look manageable in isolation, but remember that lakhs of candidates sit for the exam every year and only a small fraction cross this line.
The Final cut-off of 963 for the General category is not something you reach with one strong paper. It demands consistent performance across every stage. A few things worth keeping in mind for 2026:
CSAT is qualifying, not competitive. You need 33% to clear it. Do not neglect it, but do not over-invest time in it either. The real battle is GS Paper I.
The 10% rule in Mains is non-negotiable. A low score in even one of the seven competitive papers can disqualify you despite a strong aggregate. You cannot afford a weak subject.
The interview is serious business. The topper scored 204 in the Personality Test. At the top 100 ranks, the difference between IAS and IPS often comes down to how well you perform in that room.
