Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Sunday (March 8, 2026) officially joined the ruling Janata Dal-United at party headquarters in Patna. All top party leaders were present on the occasion, though his father, Mr. Nitish Kumar, was conspicuously absent.

“I’ll try to take forward what my papa (Mr. Nitish Kumar) has done for the people of Bihar… will try to take it (the developmental works) to the people of Bihar”, Nishant Kumar, 50, said on the occasion of his joining the party.

Party working president Sanjay Kumar Jha joined Mr. Nishant Kumar in the party in the presence of other top party leaders like Rajeev Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, state party president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, Bijendra Yadav, Zama Khan, Vijay Kumar Choudhury and others. “We are all proud of my father”, asserted Nishant Kumar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was busy reviewing development works at Bihar and Patna museums in Patna.

“Today I’ve come here to join JD(U), and it was my father’s personal decision which I’ve accepted…we all will work under the direction of my father”, he said further, adding, “I’ll try to take the works done by my father for the development of Bihar forward”.

Mr. Nishant Kumar was born on July 20, 1975, and like his father, he has also been an engineer by education. His primary school education was from Patna and later, he did his engineering from Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra in Ranchi.

A large number of party supporters and workers had gathered outside party headquarters at Beerchnad Patel in Patna to welcome Mr. Nishant Kumar into the party.

Nishant hain to nischint hain (when Nishant Kumar is around, we’re all assured), Jai Nitish, Jai Nishant (hail Nitish Kumar, hail Nishant Kumar)”, the assembled party workers and supporters chanted in the party premises. Elephants, camel and horses, along with drums and fleet of vehicles were brought in by party supporters to welcome Nishant Kumar into the party fold.

“Now, we want to see him (Mr. Nishant Kumar) as Chief Minister of the State”, shouted gathered party workers and supporters before the jostling media persons.
