The Government has officially recognised the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the Recognised Security Organisation (RSO) for all major and minor seaports, empowering it to regulate, oversee, and enforce security standards across India’s maritime facilities. Port-security responsibility was earlier managed in a fragmented manner under the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), without a dedicated professional security regulator for maritime zones.
