Bihar Nalanda Temple Stampede Today Highlights: Eight people were killed in stampede at a temple in Bihar’s Nalanda district today. The incident took place when people had gathered at Maa Sheetla Mandir in Maghra village of Nalanda. According to the police, all eight deceased were women.
Several people have also been reported to be injured. “At least eight women died in the stampede at Shitala Mata temple on Tuesday morning. Police personnel and officials of the district administration have reached the spot, and the rescue work is on,” news agency PTI quoted Bihar Sharif Assistant Superintendent of Police Noorul Haque as saying.
Announcing Rs 2 lakh ex gratia for the family of each deceased from PMNRF, PM Modi said: “The mishap in Nalanda district, Bihar, is deeply painful. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.” He also extended Rs 50,000 releif for the injured. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced Rs 4 lakhs each from Disaster Management Department and Rs 2 lakhs each from CM relief fund — a total of Rs 6 Lakhs each — for the next of kin of deceased.
President Droupadi Murmu took to X to extend her condolences to families of devotees who lost their lives. She was in Bihar at Nalanda University to address its convocation ceremony.

Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the government of the incident, saying that the "administrative mismanagement" led to it.
"The incident caused by administrative mismanagement, resulting in the deaths of devotees, is deeply saddening. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of the injured. My heartfelt condolences are with the bereaved families," he said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary extended his condolences on X to the families of devotees who lost their lives. He added that the government is providing possible assistance and relief to the affected families.

Congress leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh accused the government over the Nalanda Sheetla Mata Temple stampede, saying it had occurred due to the laxity of the administration. He said, "It is unfortunate. The government should remain more vigilant on such incidents. This has all happened due to the administration's laxity. The government should promptly provide compensation to the families of those who lost their lives."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took to X to extend his condolences to the victims' families. "The stampede incident at the Mata Sheetla Temple in Nalanda (Bihar) is extremely heartbreaking and distressing. A devotee, whose mother was trampled by the crowd, said the crowd was swelling and it was not stopped. “They [temple] administration should have stopped the crowd when they saw the crowd swelling. They did not. I kept calling my mother but the crowd swept her into the temple,” she told news agency PTI.
